Louis Vuitton Les Sables Roses vs Bond No. 9 NoMad
Rose with oud is a combination almost every niche house has, which is exactly why it's interesting how differently it can be done. Les Sables Roses goes in a dry, desert direction with saffron and an animalic edge. NoMad steers the same ingredient into fruit — blackcurrant and pear — which gives a completely different first impression. They're close in price; both bottles are well over €350.

Les Sables Roses has four main ingredients and nothing superfluous: rose, saffron, oud and amber, with pepper up top. Because an animalic accord is also among them, it isn't a drawing-room rose — it's closer to hot sand than to a flower shop. NoMad wraps the same base in fruit and powder: blackcurrant with pear up top, violet and orris beside the rose, vanilla underneath. So it's sweeter, softer, and listed as feminine in our database, while Les Sables Roses is unisex. If it's oud you're after, go to Louis Vuitton; if you want a rose that's pleasant even for people who don't like oud, try NoMad. On decants the Bond is a little cheaper, on bottles more expensive — €409 against €375.
Which has more oud?
Les Sables Roses. Oud is its second-strongest ingredient and sits almost alone in the base, with amber. NoMad has agarwood in the heart, where fruit and violet smother it considerably.
Is NoMad only for women?
In our database it's listed as feminine, which is a starting point, not a rule. Rose with oud is traditionally a unisex combination in Arabian perfumery — if the label bothers you, check it with two millilitres rather than by reading.
Which is easier to wear every day?
NoMad, because fruit and vanilla make it easier to drink in. With saffron and its animalic edge, Les Sables Roses is more demanding and more of an evening scent.
Why is Louis Vuitton harder to try?
Because the house doesn't sell its fragrances through perfumeries, only in its own boutiques, and there are none in Slovenia, where we're based. Bond No. 9 is easier in this respect — but with both, a decant is cheaper than a €400 mistake.
