Marc Antoine Barrois Ganymede vs Dior Sauvage
Sauvage is probably the best-selling men's fragrance in the world; Ganymede is a fragrance known mainly to the niche community. That's exactly what makes the comparison interesting — it's not two similar scents, but two opposite ideas of what a fragrance should do at all.

Ganymede is in our range and has saffron and Italian mandarin up top, Chinese osmanthus and immortelle in the heart, and suede with mineral notes and akigalawood underneath. Its accords include a mineral note, leather and a metallic character — a combination most people can't place on first sniff, and that's exactly the point. Sauvage stands on bergamot and ambroxan; it's clean, fresh and made so as to bother nobody. Ganymede costs €205 for 100 ml (€2.05/ml), a 5 ml decant €19. We don't carry Sauvage. If you want a fragrance everyone will recognise, Sauvage is the right choice; if you want one nobody will recognise, it's Ganymede.
Is Ganymede worth more than Sauvage?
It depends on what you expect. Sauvage is reliable and likeable; Ganymede is unusual and more complex. If you're after a safe choice, paying extra doesn't make sense.
What does Ganymede smell like?
Dry, metallic skin with a mandarin freshness at the start. In the base it has cedar, sandalwood and vetiver. Many people describe it as fruity leather, which is closer to the truth than any single note.
Do you carry Sauvage?
No. If you're after something in that direction from our range, Bleu de Chanel is closer to Sauvage than Ganymede — fresh, citrusy and widely liked.
Is Ganymede suitable for the office?
Yes. It stays fairly close to the body and isn't sweet, which is an advantage indoors.
Is Ganymede unisex?
In our database it's listed as unisex. Its mineral, metallic character keeps it far from a classically masculine or feminine profile.
