Xerjoff 40 Knots vs Deified Tony Iommi
Xerjoff has eight fragrances in our range, and these two stand at its opposite ends. 40 Knots is salt and sea water, Deified leather with rose and saffron. The difference in price per millilitre is almost twofold, and the difference in scent so great that without the logo nobody would link them to the same house.

40 Knots is the only marine fragrance in the whole catalogue: salt and sea water up top, cedar in the heart, woody notes underneath. It's dry, salty and without sweetness, and according to community ratings surprisingly long-lasting for a fresh scent — 8 to 12 hours. Deified Tony Iommi is the opposite: saffron, apple and cinnamon up top, leather with rose in the heart, papyrus and patchouli underneath. Dark, spicy and distinctly an evening fragrance. The price underlines the difference in a way you don't see on the shelf: Deified costs €275 for 50 ml, so €5.50 per millilitre; 40 Knots costs €290 for 100 ml, so €2.90 per millilitre. With decants the difference almost disappears — €30 against €29 for five millilitres — which makes a decant the only fair way to compare.
Which is more summery?
40 Knots, without competition. Salt, sea water and green notes are summery by design. Deified, with leather and cinnamon, is a winter and evening fragrance.
Why is there no longevity rating for Deified?
Because it's a special-edition fragrance with too few public ratings. We don't measure longevity ourselves and don't write a range without a source.
Why is the smaller bottle more expensive per millilitre?
Because Xerjoff doesn't set prices in proportion to volume. Deified comes in 50 ml at €5.50 per millilitre, 40 Knots in 100 ml at €2.90 per millilitre — on the shelf it looks the other way round.
Which should I take as my first Xerjoff?
Neither of these two. To get to know the house, Naxos or Erba Pura make more sense; 40 Knots is specific, and Deified is for collectors.
