Penhaligon's Halfeti vs MFK Oud Satin Mood Extrait
Both fragrances stand on oud and both are considered evening fragrances, and that's where the similarity ends. Halfeti is an EDP, Oud Satin Mood an extrait, which means a denser mix with less alcohol. More importantly, the oud leads in completely different directions — in Halfeti towards leather and resin, in the MFK towards vanilla and caramel.

Halfeti is drier and more serious. Its accords include leather, spices and wood, and the base of its pyramid has oud, leather and cedar — which gives it a rough, almost smoky character. Oud Satin Mood goes the opposite way: vanilla and a powdery note come straight after the oud, it has caramel in the base and two roses in the heart, Damask and Turkish. The result is creamy and soft where Halfeti is coarse. Price is the second distinguishing factor: the MFK costs €4.93 per millilitre (€345 for 70 ml), and with decants the difference is even more obvious — 5 ml of Halfeti is €22, MFK €41, almost double. If you're looking for your first serious oud, Halfeti is the cheaper way in; if oud on its own is too dry for you, the MFK will be closer to you.
Which is better for a woman?
According to our database labels, Oud Satin Mood is unisex and Halfeti masculine. The composition bears that out: with two roses, vanilla and caramel, the MFK is softer and more neutral, while Halfeti, with leather and oud, is more classically masculine.
Which is better for an oud beginner?
Oud Satin Mood. Vanilla and a powdery note soften the oud, so it's less of a shock to an unaccustomed nose. Halfeti serves the oud more bare, beside leather and cedar.
Why is the MFK so much more expensive?
Partly because of the concentration — an extrait has more perfume oil than an EDP — and partly because of the house name. Per millilitre the MFK is €4.93, among the higher prices in our catalogue.
Can Halfeti be worn during the day too?
With conditions. Grapefruit and cypress up top make it bearable, but the leather and oud in the base stay all day. For the office it's better to use fewer sprays than with a lighter fragrance.
Is it worth buying both?
No. They overlap on oud and rose but diverge in what follows. Take a decant of both, wear each for a week and keep the one you actually reach for — together that's €63 instead of one full bottle.
