Xerjoff Alexandria II Anniversary vs Penhaligon's Halfeti
Both fragrances have oud and rose, both are considered evening fragrances and both often end up on the same recommendation list. On skin, though, they go in different directions: Alexandria II towards herbs and animalic notes, Halfeti towards leather and resin.

Alexandria II has wormwood, clary sage, mint and civet in the heart — a combination that makes it cool, almost medicinal in the first hour. Only the base of sandalwood and vanilla brings it into warmth. Halfeti is warm throughout: cypress, saffron and grapefruit up top, Bulgarian rose with nutmeg in the heart, oud, leather and cedar underneath. Where Alexandria comes across dry and airy, Halfeti comes across dense and dark. They're further apart in price than you'd expect: a 5 ml decant of Alexandria costs €35, of Halfeti €22; at ten millilitres it's €62 against €38. So Halfeti is about a third cheaper and also easier to understand, which makes it the more sensible first step.
Which is more demanding for the nose?
Alexandria II. Wormwood, cumin and civet are notes most people don't expect in a fragrance, so the first hour often surprises. Halfeti is more readable from the start.
Which has more rose?
Halfeti. Its rose sits in the heart beside nutmeg and jasmine. In Alexandria II the Bulgarian rose is in the top, so it disappears faster.
Which is better for summer?
Neither especially. If you have to choose, Alexandria II, with herbs and mint, is airier; Halfeti, with leather and cedar, is a winter fragrance.
Why is Alexandria II more expensive?
We don't have full-bottle prices for either in our database, so we can only compare decants — €35 against €22 for 5 ml. The difference is set by the house and the concentration: Alexandria II is a parfum, Halfeti an eau de parfum.
Which should I choose for a special occasion?
Halfeti, if you want people to notice and recognise it. Alexandria II, if you'd rather the fragrance is only commented on by those who come close.
