Dior Ambre Nuit vs Louis Vuitton Fleur du Désert
Both have rose among their first accords and both place it in a warm setting, but the results aren't alike. Ambre Nuit is dry and peppery, Fleur du Désert honeyed and floral. The bottle-price difference is €87 — the question is whether you're paying for the scent or for the fact that the fragrance can't be bought anywhere in Slovenia, where we're based.

Ambre Nuit is rose dressed in citrus and pepper: bergamot with grapefruit up top, Damask rose with pink pepper in the heart, ambergris and guaiac underneath. It's dry, restrained and, according to community ratings, quieter than you'd expect at the price — 5 to 8 hours and moderate sillage. Fleur du Désert goes the opposite way: honey and cinnamon up top, three white flowers beside the rose in the heart, agarwood underneath. It's denser, sweeter and more oud-heavy, even though oud is only the third accord. Louis Vuitton comes with one more limitation Dior doesn't have: in Slovenia you can't smell it anywhere, because the house doesn't sell through perfumeries. With Ambre Nuit a decant is a recommendation; with Fleur du Désert it's the only way.
Which is more rosy?
Ambre Nuit. Rose is its first accord and almost alone in the heart, joined only by pink pepper. In Fleur du Désert white florals come before it and oud after it, so it's less recognisably rosy.
Why is there no longevity rating for Fleur du Désert?
Because there aren't enough independent ratings for it — the fragrance is hard to get hold of, so there are fewer reviews. We don't measure longevity ourselves and we won't guess.
Is Ambre Nuit suitable for women?
In our database it's listed as masculine, but rose with bergamot and pepper isn't a men's combination in any serious sense. Fleur du Désert is listed as unisex and, with its honey, is more classically 'feminine' than the Dior.
Which is easier to try?
Ambre Nuit, because Dior is in every larger perfumery. Louis Vuitton sells only in its own boutiques, and there are none in Slovenia — so for us a decant of Fleur du Désert is the only way to smell it at all.
