Montale Arabians Tonka vs Xerjoff Naxos
Both have tonka in the base and both promise warm sweetness — but they part ways by the second breath. Arabians Tonka goes in an Arabian direction: saffron up top, oud and Bulgarian rose in the heart. Naxos goes Mediterranean: lavender and lemon up top, honey and cinnamon in the heart, tobacco leaf in the base. They share five of their ten main accords, but those five are the foundation — the difference is in what stands on top. And in the price, which for Naxos is exactly double.

| Decant 10 ml | €25 | €40 |
If you only look at price per millilitre, Arabians Tonka at €1.20 against €2.40 is the obvious choice — and for sweet, warm everyday wear it really is enough. With Naxos you're paying for honey and tobacco, which the Montale doesn't have, and a name that means something in niche circles. Neither is a substitute for the other: if you want oud and rose under the sweetness, Naxos won't give you that, and vice versa. But here's what matters — with decants the difference is much smaller than with full bottles. Five millilitres of Naxos is €24, of Arabians Tonka €14. Ten euros is a fair price for settling the question on your own skin rather than on someone else's review.
How do they differ at all if both are sweet?
In both, sweetness is the foundation, not the character. Arabians Tonka builds it on oud, Bulgarian rose and amber — the Arabian school. Naxos builds it on honey, cinnamon and tobacco leaf — the Mediterranean one. Five shared accords (sweet, vanilla, warm spicy, aromatic, powdery) mean they seem related in the first minutes. After half an hour they don't.
Which is better for the office?
Neither is ideal — both are sweet and warm, which quickly becomes too much indoors. If you must, Arabians Tonka: one spray, on your clothes rather than your neck. Save Naxos for after work.
Does Montale offer good value for money?
With this pair the ratio is clearly measurable: €1.20 per millilitre against €2.40. For half the price Montale offers a full-blooded niche composition with oud and real rose. That doesn't mean it's better — it means you get more millilitres of an equally serious fragrance for less money.
Which works better as a unisex fragrance?
Arabians Tonka. In Arabian tradition rose and oud have no gender, and neither does saffron. Naxos has honey and tobacco, which count as more masculine in the Western reading — though women wear it too.
How do I decide without wasting €240?
Take a 5 ml decant of both — €38 together, less than a third of one full bottle. Wear each at least three times, in different temperatures. Sweet fragrances behave very differently in warm weather than in cold, and that difference will decide for you.
